Blondie and Garbage kick off “Rage and Rapture” Tour

Blondie kicked off their 26-date “Rage and Rapture” U.S. tour with Garbage last night in Saratoga, California. Lead singers Debbie Harry and Shirley Manson recently joined up with Entertainment Weekly to give a very fun, interesting, and unconventional mutual interview and right now is the time to see both of these groundbreaking rockers who defy all labels live on tour together for the first time.

Shirley Manson shares a long history of mutual admiration and respect with Debbie Harry. During Debbie’s 1990 solo tour of the UK, Shirley was part of the band Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie, which provided support throughout the tour, and after a successful and distinguished, ongoing career with Garbage, she gave the speech inducting Blondie into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

Prior to the Entertainment Weekly interview, Debbie and Shirley were featured in a photo shoot for InStyle in 2004, performed together in 2004 for the Lifetime TV program WomenRock!, and previously shared a band manager and contributed to press releases to promote Blondie including the announcement of their forthcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November, 2005.  Both Blondie and Garbage have submitted theme songs for James Bond movies; Garbage’s track “The World Is Not Enough” was used in the eponymous 1999 film.

Garbage has an autobiographical coffee table book out now (inspired by a lyric from their song “Push It”), entitled This Is The Noise That Keeps Me Awake.  Blondie’s co-founder and guitarist Chris Stein also has a signed coffee table book featuring his famous photography and commentary: Negative: Me, Blondie, and the Advent of Punk (afterword by artist Shepard Fairey, who designed the Pollinator artwork), is available now through the Blondie webstore and to preview through the publisher Rizzoli International.  A selection of Chris Stein’s iconic photographs are also available for sale as limited edition custom prints through his official photography website. Chris’s photography is also featured in the 2018 Blondie calendar.

Exene Cervenka and John Doe (of X), and Deap Vally will be supporting the tour, with one special appearance in Los Angeles with Sky Ferreira (all on sale now).

Additional information and previously unreleased photos will be published in the print edition of Entertainment Weekly on Friday, July 7, 2017.
