BLONDIE: Unseen 1976-1980 is basically a "diary" of Roberta Bayley's relationship/friendship with Blondie from 1976 to 1980, about 4,000 words altogether. It describes how they met in the early days of CBGBs and the general history of how Blondie developed as a group. Roberta tells about the year she worked for the band and the times she toured with them. The book features 200+ exceptionally reproduced photos (most captioned), in color and black and white, with lots of backstage, behind the scenes photos, plus the "Heart of Glass" video shoot and live stuff. Also included are five photographs of Roberta with Debbie over the years, and a personal introduction by Debbie in her own handwriting. Most (more than half) of these photos have never been previously published.

About Roberta Bayley

Roberta Bayley was the chief photographer for John Holmstrom's legendary Punk Magazine and she also worked the door at punk palace CBGB’s from 1974 to 1978.

She shot album covers for The Ramones, Richard Hell and The Voidoids, and Johnny Thunders’ Heartbreakers, and also recorded the "British Punk Invasion", including Elvis Costello, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, Billy Idol and X-Ray Spex.

In 1978, she worked for a year for old friends Deborah Harry and Blondie, just as they were reaching the height of their meteoric rise in the USA. The photographer followed them during their early years and offers an intimate collection of pictures on stage and back stage with the story behind them. The style of this charismatic singer, punk-rock’s muse, opened the way to contemporary stars as Madonna. With a Box Set (released in October 2005 ), their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a movie and a new LP, the creators of the New Wave are definitively back, as modern as they always were. In 1991, Rolling Stone Magazine selected Bayley’s cover shot for The Ramones first album as one of the 100 best album covers of the rock era and it is generally regarded as a classic and enduring image of punk. Roberta has had two solo exhibitions in New York and many group shows all over the world. She participated in a group book of punk photos called Blank Generation Revisited published in 1997.
